Training

Training and Certificate Procedures

Ongoing education in the ethical treatment of research participants, the components of informed consent, and the handling of research materials and data is an important component of research and scholarship. We require that all investigators – especially student investigators – involved in research undergo formal training in current thought and issues in this area.

ALL undergraduate and graduate students, who are involved in research with human participants, MUST complete online training and pass the exam. Respective Supervisors must ensure that students completed the training and received the passing score for the exam.

ALL full-time and part-time faculty, who are involved in research with human participants, MUST complete online training and pass the exam. Respective department Chairs are responsible for ensuring faculty completed the training and received the passing score for the exam.

You will submit your proof of training completion to the IRB together with your IRB application. We will keep a copy of your record on file. You need to undergo training only once every 3 years.

Training is available online. Please use your AUCA email address to login:

Transferability of Research Ethics or IRB Training from other Institutions

Faculty, students, or researchers of AUCA conducting research with human participants are exempted from AUCA’s IRB training if they are able to provide documentation of completing a similar course in other institutions within the past 3 years from the date of their IRB application. For instance, a faculty may have completed the Human Subjects Research (HSR) conducted by the CITI Program in the three years before the submission of IRB application. Hence the faculty may be exempted from by attaching the HSR documentation in place of AUCA’s IRB Training Completion. Such faculty, students, or researchers should attach proof along with their application of such similar IRB training for consideration by the IRB.
