Appeal Process

When a research application has been disapproved, deferred, or determined as needing modifications by the IRB review and the principal investigator disagrees, the principal investigator may write in to appeal to the IRB chair who may name an ad-hoc committee of three or more faculty and/or consultant(s) to review the application a second time.

The ad-hoc committee will review the application and determine the decision to be further referred to the IRB.

Final disapproval of the IRB cannot be overridden by any institutional official.
